Jeremy Irons in Vs. Magazine Fall/Winter 2011

UPDATED: 20 September 2011 – HUGE HIGH-RESOLUTION SCANS!!

Jeremy Irons is featured in the Fall/Winter 2011 issue of Vs. Magazine.

The magazine itself measures 11.5 by 15 inches. It’s available at Barnes and Noble stores (in the U.S.A.) and it’s supposed to be available until 31st January 2012, although most stores only stock a few copies. The pages on which Jeremy’s photos are contained (pgs. 84-97) have a matte finish and the pages are thicker than typical magazine pages. This issue is definitely worth buying for such gorgeous, high-quality images.

Jeremy Irons in NY Times T Magazine – Hungarian Rhapsody

A rich film tradition and low production costs have long brought stars to Budapest, among them Jeremy Irons, 63, pictured here on the shores of the Danube River. Irons made “Nijinski,” his first movie in the capital, in 1980, and returned to make “M. Butterfly,” “Being Julia” and Showtime’s “The Borgias.” When not on set, Irons explores the city’s “wonderful crumbling faded beauty” on his motorcycle. “It’s very hard to find the soul of a city,” he says, but he suggests starting at the Dohany Street Synagogue (011-36-1-413-5500), the Hungarian State Opera (right; opera.hu) and the Western Railway Station (Terez korut at Nyugati ter), designed by the Eiffel Company of Paris. Irons also recommends Cafe Kor (011-36-1-311-0053; cafekor.com), Pomo D’Oro (011-36-1-302-6473; pomodorobudapest.com) and Nobu (noburestaurants.com/budapest), inside the Kempinski Hotel (011-36-1-429-3777; kempinski.com), where he usually stays.

Jeremy Irons part of Fairy Tales of Oscar Wilde

A Jeremy Irons – The Authoritative Website exclusive!  Marc Sinden, producer of The Fairy Tales of Oscar Wilde, gives his firsthand account of working with Jeremy Irons on making the recording:

We recorded his story in an audio suite at the BBC Borehamwood Studios. I directed the reading, as I had done for all of the stories included in the 4-CD box set of The Fairy Tales of Oscar Wilde and Jeremy arrived on his enormous motorbike, in leathers, which worried me as I thought that he might ‘squeak’! He didn’t, however, and he was utterly professional and well-prepared, as usual, and we recorded the whole story in three takes. I was delighted that he had invented so many voices for all of the characters in the story and several of them made me laugh out loud! We then had lunch in the commissary and had a wander around the Eastenders permanent set before he roared off on his huge bike, while I waited for Joanna Lumley to arrive to record her story. He really is the most un-‘star like’ actor I know – a real actor – and a wonderfully loyal and sweet friend.”

This year, while in Hungary filming The Borgias, Jeremy Irons is using a new BMW R 1200 GS Adventure Triple Black motorbike. He will use the 100hp special edition BMW until November, when they finish shooting The Borgias. He uses it in Budapest during weekdays and goes to the countryside during weekends.

Zambo Balasz, manager of Hungary BMW, handed over the keys to the machine adding: “We are very pleased that Mr. Irons again chose our motorcycles during his stay in Hungary. It is important that such an important guest be able to know as many sides of the country, which is a great opportunity for touring.”

The Borgias Win at Canada’s Gemini Awards

The Borgias takes top honours at Canada’s Gemini Awards

At a star-studded gala Wednesday night, 7 September 2011, The Borgias won the Gemini Award for best dramatic series.

When it premiered in April, The Borgias, a period drama full of sex and scheming, grabbed the attention of 1.3 million viewers in Canada.

Jeremy Irons accepted the award via pre-recorded video message.

——————————————————————————————–

The Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television presented 61 Gemini Awards Wednesday night, 31st August 2011, at the second of three galas. Programs in the categories of drama, comedy, variety and children’s or youth programming were honoured in Toronto.

The Borgias received three awards in Wednesday night’s ceremony.

Winners from Wednesday night’s ceremony:

– Best direction in a dramatic series: Jeremy Podeswa for The Borgias

– Francois Seguin wins Best Production Design/Art Direction in a Non-Fiction                         Program/Series for The Borgias.

  – The Borgias – The Poisoned Chalice/The Assassin ….. Best Production Design or Art Direction in a Fiction Program or Series

———————————————————————————————

Before the awards were handed out, best director nominee Jeremy Podeswa — who won for “The Borgias” — described the Gemini bash as a favourite get-together for members of Canada’s tight TV industry.
He compared it to the Emmys, where he was nominated last year for his work on “The Pacific.”
“It feels like much more of a family kind of thing,” said Podeswa, who added he would be unable to attend this year because he would be in Ireland directing “Game of Thrones.”
“The Geminis have always been a place where I immediately felt comfortable and at home.”

The Gemini Awards culminate with the Sept. 7 gala on CBC-TV. Comedy superstar Russell Peters will host, with presenters set to include Catherine O’Hara, Alan Thicke, Hugh Dillon and Priestley.

Jeremy Irons to do Henry IV for BBC

Jeremy Irons takes lead in BBC2’s new Henry IV adaptation – from Guardian.co.uk

Jeremy Irons is set to film Shakespeare’s Henry IV, parts 1 and 2, as part of the BBC’s 2012 Shakespeare Season, directed by Richard Eyre.

Irons will feature alongside Tom Hiddleston as Prince Hal and Simon Russell Beale as Falstaff in Henry IV. Hiddleston will then take the lead role in Henry V, which along with Richard II forms part of the BBC cycle of Shakespeare’s history plays to be broadcast in 2012.

Henry IV will be directed by Sir Richard Eyre, the former director of the National Theatre, with Thea Sharrock taking directing duties on Henry V, which goes into production later this year. Henry IV is due to begin filming in January.

Oscar-winning director Sam Mendes has also signed up to helm four new versions of Shakespeare’s history plays for the BBC, it has been announced.

Mendes will be executive producer of Richard II, Henry IV parts I and II, and Henry V as part of a special season devoted to the Bard planned for 2012. They will be shown on BBC2.

The BBC’s 2012 Shakespeare season will be produced by Neal Street Productions with American partners NBC Universal and WNET.

Involving some of the most pre-eminent Shakespearian actors and directors of our time, the films will consist of bold adaptations of Richard II, Henry IV Parts I and II and Henry V, set in the Medieval period and filmed on locations around the UK and Europe. These four films will be linked to the Cultural Olympiad of 2012.

———————————————————————————————

More details from the Daily Mail:

Producers will be Rupert Ryle Hodges and executive producers Gareth Neame, Pippa Harris and Sam Mendes.

Julie Walters is in discussions to pull a pint or two as landlady of the infamous Boar’s Head Tavern.

Richard Eyre and Thea Sharrock would like the actress to play Mistress Quickly in Henry IV Parts 1 and 2 and Henry V, all of which are being filmed for BBC2 to be screened as part of next year’s cultural Olympiad.

The award-winning Ms Walters has agreed to do the project, but it’s a question of making the filming dates work.

Michelle Dockery, who has found much-deserved fame as Lady Mary in Downton Abbey, is being  approached about playing Lady Percy, Hotspur’s wife, in the Henry IV films.

Joe Armstrong is in negotiations to play Hotspur, and there’s a plan afoot to try to get his father Alun Armstrong to play the Duke of Northumberland — Hotspur’s father. As I told you a while back, Tom Hiddleston is playing Prince Hal, in the two Henry IV dramas, and Henry V.

Richard Eyre will direct the Henry IV films (more than four hours of drama in total).
