Synopsis:
Harley (Alex Sharp) and Steph (Analeigh Tipton) accidentally kill their tyrant boss and go on the run. Overzealous FBI Agent McFadden (Maria Bello) is determined to crush them and wants to teach her rookie partner (Karan Soni) how it’s done. But while the agents pursue their culprits, our heroes have loftier pursuits. They kidnap Harley’s Vietnam vet grandfather (Jeremy Irons) to reunite him with the love of his life and pick up a try-hard beatnik hitchhiker (Edi Gathegi) who wants “a real experience with real people”. And against all common sense, they follow a roadside attractions map with a mysterious history across America’s heartland and take in the sites with the agents getting closer with every state they cross. While Agent McFadden promises a fatal end to this road trip, this eclectic band of misfits becomes an unlikely family.

Jeremy Irons is a film, stage, and television actor. He made his Broadway début in 1984 in Tom Stoppard’s play “The Real Thing,” for which he received a Tony Award for Best Actor. He won an Academy Award for Best Actor for the film “Reversal of Fortune,” and both an Emmy and a Golden Globe for his role in the television miniseries “Elizabeth I.” He has also starred in the films “Lolita,” “The Man in the Iron Mask,” and, most recently, “The Man Who Knew Infinity.”
Rebecca Mead joined The New Yorker as a staff writer in 1997. She has profiled many subjects, among them Lena Dunham, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Santiago Calatrava, Nico Muhly, Slavoj Zizek, and Loïc Gouzer. She has also written more than a hundred Talk of the Town stories. She is the author of “One Perfect Day: The Selling of the American Wedding” and “My Life in Middlemarch.”
The British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) hosted Oscar-winning and double BAFTA-nominated actor Jeremy Irons, at a special ‘BAFTA A Life in Pictures’ event at BAFTA’s headquarters, 195 Piccadilly in London, on Friday 9 September 2016.

Jeremy Irons was in attendance at the 2016 Venice Film Festival to present Jerzy Skolimowski with the Golden Lion for Career Achievement, during the opening of the festival.
Jeremy Irons outlined Skolimowski’s achievements at a ceremony starting at 7pm on Wednesday 31 August.
Irons played the main role in Skolimowski’s 1982 film Moonlighting about Polish workers in London at a time when martial law was introduced in Poland by the country’s then-communist regime.

Danish filmmaker Lone Scherfig (An Education, The Riot Club) directs a sterling British cast — including Gemma Arterton, Bill Nighy, Jack Huston and Richard E. Grant — in this period comedy-drama about a group of filmmakers struggling to make an inspirational film to boost morale during the Blitz of London in World War II.
Director Lone Scherfig (An Education) returns to the Festival with this rousing romantic comedy set in Britain’s wartime film industry. Featuring a cast teeming with some of the UK’s most charismatic comedic actors, Bill Nighy and Richard E. Grant among them, Their Finest is about boosting morale in a period of national — and personal — crisis.
Catrin Cole (Gemma Arterton, who also appears at the Festival in Orphan and The Girl With All the Gifts) is a “slop” scriptwriter, charged with bringing a female perspective to war films produced by the British Ministry of Information’s Film Division. Her current project is a feature inspired by stories of British civilians rescuing soldiers after the retreat at Dunkirk. Catrin’s artist husband looks down on her job, despite the fact that it’s paying the rent. At least lead scenarist Tom Buckley (Sam Claflin) appreciates her efforts.
While on location in Devon, Catrin begins to come into her own and earn the respect of her peers. She’s the only crewperson that Ambrose Hilliard (Nighy), a past-his-prime yet nonetheless pompous actor, will talk to.
Based on the novel Their Finest Hour and a Half by Lissa Evans, the film pops with witty banter and flows with lovely period detail. The characters are uniformly textured and the performances nuanced. Nighy is perfectly cast in his endearingly withering role, and Jeremy Irons turns up for a delicious cameo. It is, however, Arterton’s show. She brings subtlety, intelligence, and a range of beautifully gauged emotions to Catrin, whose path to self-renewal is an inspiring example of a talented woman forging her place in the world.

Jeremy Irons has a small role, as the Secretary of War, in the film Their Finest, directed by Lone Scherfig. The film is based on the 2009 novel Their Finest Hour and a Half by Lissa Evans.
The film will have a Gala Presentation at the 2016 Toronto International Film Festival.
TIFF runs from 8th to 18th September. The exact dates, times and locations of the Gala Presentations will be released on 23rd August.
[No confirmation yet on whether Jeremy will be in attendance at TIFF this year.]
Jeremy filmed his role in Their Finest, at the end of September 2015, in Wales.

Bath Spa University has announced that Jeremy Irons has accepted the position of Chancellor. It is the first time in its history that the University will have a Chancellor.

The news was announced by Vice-Chancellor of Bath Spa University, Professor Christina Slade who said:
“Creativity is at the heart of Bath Spa University. Through his vast experience in the arts Jeremy Irons will bring unique insight to Bath Spa University and influence our vision to be the leading university for creativity, culture and enterprise.
“I look forward to working closely with Mr Irons in his new role and the opportunities this new relationship will afford the University.”
Jeremy Irons has a long and illustrious career in film, television and theatre. He trained at the Old Vic Theatre School in Bristol and first performed on stage in 1969. He has appeared in numerous productions in both the West End of London and on Broadway winning a Tony Award for Best Actor for his role in The Real Thing in 1984.
His performance in TV series Brideshead Revisited resulted in his first Golden Globe Award for Best Actor and he won a further Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actor and an Emmy Award for his performance in Elizabeth I.
His numerous film credits include Kafka, Dead Ringers, Lolita, The Man in the Iron Mask, The Lion King, Die Hard with a Vengeance, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Reversal of Fortune for which he won the Academy Award for Best Actor.
Speaking about his appointment, Jeremy Irons said:
“I am delighted and honoured to have been elected the first Chancellor of Bath Spa University. I look forward to playing a part in the University’s growing success and international renown.
“Being a believer in the importance of integrated education I am delighted to see the education and research happening at Bath Spa moving in this direction. Having been educated at Sherborne, trained and apprenticed at the Bristol Old Vic including a run at the Theatre Royal Bath it feels right for me to accept this role.
“I hope that my international visibility will be a further aid in attracting students from both this country and overseas. I look forward to my tenure.”
The Chancellor is the ceremonial figurehead of the university and plays an important ambassadorial role for the University.
An investiture ceremony will take place in the autumn when Jeremy Irons will formally be installed as Chancellor of Bath Spa University.
