This innovative programme, devised by the orchestra of the Wiener Akademie, links together a soprano voice, pieces of incidental music, and the actor Jeremy Irons telling the story of Egmont. The text for this work was adapted from Goethe’s play by Christopher Hampton, the Oscar-winning script writer.

For 25 years actors have given Simon Annand unprecedented access to photograph them during the thirty minutes before curtain up, known as ‘the half’. These rare images show the myriad ways actors focus for the performance ahead and offer a dazzling gallery of our most celebrated actors.
In 2008, Annand’s photographs from The Half were part of an exhibit at the National Theatre in London from September 22 to November 9.
