Jeremy Irons has joined the cast of Beautiful Creatures, Alcon’s adaptation of the young adult novel by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl.
Jeremy Irons is the most recent in a flurry of casting announcements, joining Viola Davis (Amma), Emma Thompson (Mrs. Lincoln/Sarafine), Emmy Rossum (Ridley), Thomas Mann (Link) and relative newcomers Alden Ehrenreich (Ethan) and Alice Englert (Lena).
Ehrenreich and Englert are the centerpieces of the coming-of-age story about two star-crossed teens – one a local boy, the other a mysterious new girl – who uncover dark secrets about their families, their history and their town.
Jeremy will play the role of Macon Ravenwood, the mysterious and reclusive uncle of Englert’s character. Macon is an incubus who can see and steal the dreams of others.
Erwin Stoff (Water for Elephants, I Am Legend) will produce along with Kosove and Johnson (The Blind Side, The Book of Eli) and Molly Smith (Something Borrowed, P.S. I Love You.)
Filming begins in April 2012 in and around New Orleans. Jeremy will likely be on set from approximately April 19 to June 23, after he finishes filming Night Train to Lisbon and before starting production on Season 3 of Showtime’s The Borgias.
Richard LaGravenese (P.S. I Love You) will direct from his adaptation.
Alcon, which has film rights to all three books in the series published by Little Brown Books, including Beautiful Darkness, and Beautiful Chaos, is looking at Beautiful Creatures to kick off a possible franchise at WB. A fourth book, Beautiful Redemption, will be released October 23, 2012.
Alcon recently produced the hit Dolphin Tale, a 3-D family film starring Morgan Freeman, Harry Connick Jr., Ashley Judd and Kris Kristofferson.
Irons is repped by CAA and Ken McReddie Associates.
Jeremy Irons currently stars in Showtime’s period drama The Borgias, which returns for a second season on April 8, 2012. Film-wise, he was last seen in Margin Call and will next been seen in CBS Films’ The Words, which also stars Bradley Cooper. Other future films of Jeremy’s include BBC’s Henry IV: Parts 1 & 2 and Night Train to Lisbon.

Jeremy Irons might have been thousands of miles away from the Sundance Film Festival, but he was the life of the party at The Words press conference on Thursday.

Skyping in from his computer in Oxfordshire, England (where he’s about to shoot a new movie), Irons interrupted the press conference at one point to ask to see his co-star Bradley Cooper.
“Could you please turn the camera towards Bradley for me,” Irons said. “My (assistant) is sitting on the floor here and she’s very keen to see him up close.”
People’s reigning Sexiest-Man-Alive Cooper, who was showing some serious Sundance stubble, was finally brought in front of the camera. Irons then coo-ed: “Okay Bradley, now smolder for me.”
Irons puffed away on cigarettes as his image was broadcast on a large screen during the press conference at the Acura Studio in Park City, Utah.
“The advantage I have here is that I can have a cigarette,” he gloated. “The disadvantage is that I cannot hit the ski slopes.”
Irons, 63, also went on to talk about how hard it was to play an old man in the film.
“The hardest thing was to play someone so incredibly old,” he said. “Because you know I’m actually quite young. The reason I have this beard is because I play someone who is also old. It’s a stretch.”
Irons was such a hoot that writer-director Brian Klugman finally announced, “Jeremy will now be doing five-minutes of stand-up.”

Bradley Cooper gets shady in Sundance mystery ‘The Words’
Now Bradley Cooper is the “textiest man alive.”
This poster for his upcoming Sundance mystery-romance The Words depicts The Hangover actor in silhouette, rendered by lines from the movie’s screenplay — a nod to the movie’s themes about how our use of words defines us (especially if they’re not ours to begin with).
Cooper stars as a struggling writer whose wife (Zoe Saldana) buys a valise for him in an antiques shop, which happens to contain the manuscript for a lost masterwork by a Hemingway-esque writer (Jeremy Irons). Things take a dark turn when he decides to publish it as his own work.
The Words is the closing night movie for the festival, which runs from Jan. 19-29. Co-writers and co-directors Brian Klugman and Lee Sternthal originally penned the script 12 years ago. Thankfully, they never lost it in and old briefcase.
“We started by talking about writers and their lost work. What if you lost all your work? How long would it take you to move on?” says Sternthal.
“That led us to a question, what if you found the work?” Klugman adds.
Olivia Wilde co-stars as the threat looming over Cooper, a fellow scribe who wants to know more about the origin of his best-selling and beloved novel. “Olivia plays someone who wants to be a great writer, and also wants to know the truth about what happened with this book,” Sternthal says.
While it’s difficult to tell a cinematic story about writing (a guy sitting at a keyboard is hard to dramatize), Sternthal and Klugman describe The Words almost as a heist film. It’s challenging to write well, but the tools are available to anyone who wants them — which means they are also easily stolen. “When you’ve been in this industry and try to be an actor or a director — to be anything — you need so many elements to come into place. You need money. You need someone to say, basically, ‘It’s okay, you can do this.’ But to be a writer, to work with words, you need a pen and paper,” Klugman says.
“And the best thing about it is, if it sucks, you can just throw it out,” Sternthal jokes.

PRESS RELEASE – The Office of Film and Television (QFTC) is pleased to announce the confirmation of a new American film in Quebec this summer. The independent feature The Words starring Bradley Cooper (Limitless, Hangover, and soon Hangover Two) and Jeremy Irons (Die Hard with a Vengeance, Eragon, The Borgias) begins its pre-production this week. Filming will begin on June 5 for a period of 25 days, and will take place entirely in Montreal where the city will serve as a backdrop to New York and Paris.
The QFTC began discussions in early 2010 with the Hollywood production company Animus Films. Negotiations continued during the summer with the preparation of several proposals digital filming locations. The Words The project gained momentum in November during the economic mission organized by the QFTC the AFM (American Film Market) in Santa Monica. Among the 15 companies that participated in the Quebec delegation, the executive producer Francois Sylvestre took the opportunity to meet producers.
Producers Jim Young and Tatiana Kelly and the authors / directors Brian Klugman and Lee Sternthal (Tron Legacy) were invited by the QFTC last month to discover the proposed filming locations and meet with service providers and AQTIS. This trip has definitely convinced the team of financial and creative strengths of Quebec. A possible new film project for Jeremy Irons – The Words

Bradley Cooper has signed on to star in drama “The Words,” which Lisa Wilson’s Parlay Films, an affiliate of GK Films, is pre-selling at Berlin’s European Film Market.
Jeremy Irons is in talks to co-star in the pic, which is the directorial debut of “Tron Legacy” scribes Brian Klugman and Lee Sternthal.
Irons is scheduled to attend the Berlin Film Festival for the international preem of his “Margin Call,” which is screening in competition.
“The Words” reunites “Margin Call’s” Michael Benaroya (of Benaroya Pictures) and Untitled Entertainment’s Laura Rister and Cassian Elwes.
Benaroya, Animus Films’ Jim Young and Serena Films’ Tatiana Kelly will produce while Rister and Elwes are exec producing the pic.
Filmula’s Johnny Lin is in negotiations to co-finance and produce “The Words” with Benaroya.
Klugman and Sternthal’s script was workshopped at the Sundance Screenwriters’ Lab and appeared on the Black List, the annual list of Hollywood’s unproduced screenplays.
Story follows a writer who, at the peak of his literary success, discovers the price he must pay for stealing another man’s work.
Parlay Films will handle international sales while domestic rights will be handled by Waterfall Media/Untitled.
