Jeremy Irons to be at Times Talks Madrid

Jeremy Irons at Talks Times Madrid will be Friday, September 21, at 21:00.

The Academy Award-winning actor talks with New York Times London-based reporter Matt Wolf about his career and current projects, including the new film The Words, the TV series “The Borgias,” and the new environmental documentary he appears in and produced, Trashed. Watch the conversation Live on September 21st 3 – 4 pm EDT/21:00 – 22:00 CEST

Madrid hosts on 21, 22 and 23 September at the Teatro Fernan Gomez , a series of interviews conducted journalists from The New York Times featuring the personalities of international culture.

Along with Jeremy Irons, other big names such as Juan Antonio Bayona, Tori Amos, Tom Hiddleston, Alison Klayman, Ben Zeitlin and Julie Taymor will be the subjects of these conversations that come to Madrid for the first time.

David Carr, Raphael Minder, Jon Pareles and Matt Wolf will be the journalists responsible for interviewing these provocative and surprising guests.

These talks will be broadcast via streaming through the website of The New York Times .

Audiences can attend the talks live in Guirau Chamber of Fernan Gomez. Tickets are free but must be ordered through the website of the theater.

Jeremy Irons Attends BAM Fisher Opening

Jeremy Irons was at the unveiling of the Brooklyn Academy of Music’s new performance space, the Richard B. Fisher building at 321 Ashland Place in the Fort Greene section of Brooklyn, on Thursday 6 September 2012.

The BAM Fisher is the first LEED Gold theater in Brooklyn. Mayor Bloomberg and Jeanne Donovan Fisher cut the ribbon at the unveiling.

Academy Award winner Jeremy Irons applauds BAM, emphasizes importance of the arts.

The Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM) officially opened the doors of the Richard B. Fisher building, its newest theater and rehearsal space, on Thursday in Fort Greene, Brooklyn. The new building houses a 250-seat black-box-style theater, educational workshop and rehearsal spaces and a roof deck. The building is named after Richard B. Fisher, BAM’s Endowment Trust Chairman. Fisher died in 2004.

BAM is a multi-arts center that focuses on both showcasing a wide range of artists, as well as training the next generation of artists in various concentrations, including: film, theater, dance, opera and visual arts.

A large crowd of politicians, supporters, donors and artists gathered on Thursday for the building’s ribbon cutting ceremony. Among those in the crowd were Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Academy Award-winner, Jeremy Irons. Along with praising BAM for establishing a highly esteemed profile around the globe, Irons talked specifically about the crucial role the arts play in any community during tough times.

“I know instinctively that at moments like this in our society when we are facing a slow revolution of capitalism being seen not to work and people in huge problems economically,” Irons said. “I know that the one thing we need to bind together is not only, as they would say at the Olympics, sport, but art—it’s the thing that binds society.”

The Fisher Building, along with the Gilman Opera House and the Harvey Theater, is currently hosting the academy’s 30th annual Next Wave Festival.

Kicking off their month-long IFI20 celebrations, Saturday 1 September, 2012, moviegoers took a trip down memory lane back to the 90s with Irish Film Institute 1992 Day! The IFI was delighted to welcome Jeremy Irons and Sinéad Cusack who partnered in Waterland, the very first film publicly screened at the IFI in its new home in Temple Bar.

Screening as part of 20/20 Legacy Films season, Waterland was followed by the post-screening Q&A with Jeremy and Sinead and hosted by writer and film critic, Paul Lynch.
